A physical network st andard for short-wavelength laser transmission over fiber-opticcable; defined by the Institute for Electrical and Electronics Engineers. 1000Base-SXsupports Ethernet transmission at 1;000 megabits per second over links up to 500meters long; depending on the type of fiber-optic cable used.
