3G (third generation)

The term used to refer to the next generation of wireless communicationstechnology; the "first generation" having been analog cellular; and the "secondgeneration" being today's digital cellular networks. An initiative of the InternationalTelecommunication Union and regional st andards bodies; 3G aims to provideuniversal; high-speed (up to four megabits per second); high-b andwidth wirelessservices supporting a variety of advanced applications.
