Digital versatile disc read-only memory. A read-only digital versatile disc (DVD) format designed specifically for the PC market. DVD-ROMs are the same size as compact disc read-only memory (CD-ROM) discs; but are loaded much more densely with data; with storage capacities starting at 4.7 gigabytes. See DVD and CD-ROM.
